Claim settlement: are experts always neutral?

After the occurrence of an insured event – particularly in property insurances or business interruption insurances – discussions often arise regarding the cause and the scope of loss.

In such case, insurers and policy holders often agree to instruct an expert. The proposal to involve an expert is often made by the insurer. Policy holders then expect the expert to examine the facts quickly, efficiently and unbiased – and are often disappointed in the end.
