Insurance contracts do often not only cover the policy holder’s own risks but those of co-insured third parties as well. In case of a loss, insurers often try to refuse payment arguing with knowledge or conduct of the co-insured.

But such knowledge or conduct harms the policy holder's claim only under specific prerequisites as the article by Christian Drave points out.
